Miyo Yokoyama was born in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. She graduated from a university school of pharmacy and is a licensed pharmacist.

After graduation, she began her career as a medical representative at an international pharmaceutical company. Following her marriage, she moved to Tochigi City and joined her husband’s family-run medical clinic in 2000.

Although she had no previous experience in clinic management, she developed practical expertise through day-to-day operations, including business administration, labor management, finance, human resource development, and organizational improvement.

She also experienced major transitions in the clinic’s development, including its relocation and reopening as Yokoyama Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Clinic and its incorporation as a medical corporation.

Today, she serves as the Representative of Ippo no Kai, a community that supports women involved in medical clinic management through learning, peer exchange, and professional development.

She also serves as the Representative of Nonprofit Organization Pay it Forward Cambodia, which provides educational opportunities for children in Cambodia and supports their ability to shape their own futures.

IPPO NO KAI

A Supportive Community for Women Involved in Medical Clinic Management

Ippo no Kai is a community for the spouses, mothers, partners, and other women involved in the management and operation of medical clinics.

It provides a safe environment where members can learn, share practical knowledge, discuss challenges, and support one another.

WHY THE COMMUNITY WAS CREATED

When Miyo Yokoyama first joined a medical clinic, she faced many challenges and did not know where to begin with management responsibilities.

Through conversations with women in similar positions, she recognized the need for a trusted place where participants could exchange experience and knowledge without feeling isolated.

She began organizing peer gatherings for physicians’ spouses in 2002. In 2010, the community was formally established under its original Japanese name, “Ippo Ippo no Kai.” It now operates as Ippo no Kai.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

2000

Miyo Yokoyama joined the medical clinic following her marriage.

2001

She attended a seminar for physicians’ spouses hosted by a prefectural medical association and began connecting with other participants.

2002

She began organizing peer gatherings for physicians’ spouses.

2005

The network expanded, leading to invitations to speak at seminars and professional events.

2010

The community was formally established as “Ippo Ippo no Kai.”

2017

Practical courses on clinic management and medical administration were introduced.

2019

The community organized symposiums and networking events.

2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the community continued sharing information online and supporting medical clinics.

2023

The official website was renewed, and cumulative attendance at the community’s lunch seminars exceeded 100 participants.

NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION PAY IT FORWARD CAMBODIA

Expanding Educational Opportunities for Children in Cambodia.

Some children in Cambodia face barriers to education because of economic circumstances or family conditions, despite having dreams and potential.

Nonprofit Organization Pay it Forward Cambodia was established in March 2026 to provide educational opportunities and help children develop the ability to shape their own futures.

The organization focuses on sustainable support that expands long-term opportunities rather than one-time assistance alone.

Turning Experience
into Support.

When I first became involved in medical clinic management, I had no management experience. I learned step by step by addressing real challenges in business operations, labor administration, finance, staff development, and organizational communication.

Through this experience, I came to understand that people in similar circumstances often share concerns that are difficult to explain to others. A trusted community and the support of others can make the next step possible.

As my work expanded to Cambodia, I also became increasingly aware that access to education can broaden a child’s future choices and contribute to the long-term development of a community.

I want women involved in medical clinic management to recognize their abilities and act with confidence. I also want children in Cambodia to experience the joy of learning and gain the strength to shape their own futures.

I believe my role is to turn experience into support and help each person I meet take their next step. I will continue working across cultures and borders, guided by a commitment to contribute to the lives and futures of others.
